IPL 2018 Squad Breakdown-Royal Challengers Bangalore

Despite entering the finals thrice, the Royal Challengers Bangalore did not win the IPL title. The team is one of the strongest teams on paper but have some invisible threats.  Though the team allowed one of its star players, Chris Gayle, to leave, RCB appears to be one of the teams with the potential to clinch the title. Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the popular teams of the IPL despite some threats like inconsistency. The team succeeded in retaining its core players like Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers for the current season.RCB-Team-IPL

This year, the franchise succeeded in bagging players like Nathan Coulter-Niel, Umesh Yadav, Chris Woakes and Colin de Grandhomme who slammed them for a low score of 49 runs when the four are playing for Kolkata Knight Riders. For this season, the franchise appears to succeed in maintaining a balance in the team regarding local-overseas players ratio and all the three departments, batting, bowling, and fielding. The franchise went for Sarfaraz Khan who played a few matches in IPL 2016 edition and missed out 2017 season due to injury. The surprising thing is that the franchise used right to match card for Yuzwendra Chahal and Pawan Negi.

The franchise is all set with power- packed batting department with Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers. Kohli is the second highest scorer in the IPL history with 4,412 runs. He stood behind Suresh Raina in this list. Kohli is expected to top the chart this year. He set a rare record with the highest partnership with AB De Villiers.  Mandeep Singh, Manan Vohra, Pavan Deshpande and Anirudh Joshi can be entrusted with batting department. Out of this list, Pavan Deshpande, the local lad is the rising star with the strike rate of 145.5 at an average of 67 in his T20I career. Anirudh Joshi, Brendan McCullum, Quinton De Kock add more colors to the batting department. We remember Brendon Mc Cullum smashed the RCB earlier with his century when he is playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008.

Coming to the spinners, the team comprises of Yuzwendra Chahal and Washington Sundar who contributed for the title victory in the Nidahas tournament. Though Sundar lacks experience, he will be a mighty asset for the team. In addition, Pawan Negi and Moeen Ali could shoulder the spin bowling department. Negi picked 16 wickets off 19 games with an economy rate of 6.12 in the previous IPL edition. The team has a bunch of good all-rounders like Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, and Corey Anderson along with youngsters Washington Sundar and Pawan Negi.

Looking at the threats, the captain has less success rate when compared to the forerunners Kumble and Vettori. Though they have decent pacers like Grandhomme, Mohammed Siraj andKulwant Khejroliya, their form makes the issue. Tim Southee can be accommodated into the team only if Woakes cannot play for the team.

The ban on David Warner and Steve Smith may be an opportunity for the franchise to clinch the series this year with formidable combinations like Virat Kohli-De Villiers and Chris Woakes- Washington Sundar. Chahal is a strong bowler who can benefit from death overs and power plays.

Inexperienced all-rounders and pacers are the threats the team have to look on to make their way for title victory.
