Preview Of The New Chennai Super Kings Squad For IPL 2018

Undoubtedly, the Chennai Super Kings is one of the most successful teams which made the way for playoffs in all the eight seasons they participated in. Likewise, they clinched the IPL title twice. The skipper MS Dhoni and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja were called into the team before the commencement of the auction.CSK squad

The franchise is one of the victorious teams in the history of the IPL. This year, the franchise bought star players like Shardul Thakur and Kedar Jadhav to strengthen the team composition. This year, the Chepauk stadium witnessed full house collections during the practice matches of the yellow jerseys. The consistent leadership of Dhoni, Stephen Fleming’s mentorship, the arrogant performance of Suresh Raina, and Dwayne Bravo’s terrific all-round attack makes the team the favorites this year.

The core players like MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja were retained before the auction and Dwayne Bravo and Faf Du Plessis were picked in the auction. This makes the team look like a family get together after a two- year ban. The inclusion of Suresh Raina into the team adds a cherry to the cake. The star players make the team an aspiring one to clinch the series this year. The core of the team makes it mighty to strive to get the lost title back.

The comeback performance by Suresh Raina and the good form of Shane Watson seems the strength of the team. He made a rocking performance in BBL 2017-18 at an average of 36.77. The youngsters like Ambati Rayudu and Kedar Jadhav can shoulder the responsibility of middle-order as well as wicket-keeping. Sam Billings will be another option coming to wicket-keeping. Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo are some of the trust-worthy all-rounders.

Spinners like Harbhajan Singh, Karn Sharma, and Imran Tahir are the additional assets for the team. Sam Billings, Ambati Rayudu,  Du Plessis, and Murali Vijay are the choices for opening the game. Speedsters Lungi Ngidi and Mark Wood may shoulder the pace bowling department.

Some of the threats to the team are lack of consistent pacers. Though the team has terrific bowlers like Ngidi, Mark Wood, Deepak Chahar, and Shardul Thakur, the work load on Ngidi may be sometimes the point of contention.  The Chepauk stadium is a spin ground but excellent spin bowling department may not work well outside the home ground.

The biggest opportunity for the franchise is the consistent nucleus of core players and strong team composition. The team is striving hard to retain its lost glory. The threat for the team to clinch the series is excessive anticipation after the ban period and hectic work load on pacers and all-rounders. The franchise’s win-loss ratio of 1.52 is the best among all the teams of IPL.

The schedule of the team this IPL seems a less hectic one as the team gets the rest of four days for the initial matches till their knock against KKR in the home game schedule. By the end of the April, Dhoni’s men have to play 7 games in a period of 16 days.  They have to encounter the most successful team of the IPL, Mumbai Indians in their first game on 7th April 2018 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The success of CSK in IPL carried Dhoni to new elevations as well.
