Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma opined that mid-season transfers in IPL should take the right road. In this season, mid-season transfers are not allowed. He opened up about the benefits of mid-season transfers in the IPL speaking to the press. This move will help the teams to opt for a better player according to the requirements. This successful captain of the franchise said that “The mid-season transfer window will give the teams an opportunity to see what they need in the squad and other teams will also be looking at what players they can get. “
“It completely depends on the franchise if a situation comes when we need to get a player or give a player. It is good for the tournament and will add even more value to it,” in a press-conference ahead of IPL inaugural match.
For now, mid-season transfers are not allowed in the IPL and the teams can buy players in the auctions or specific players can be transferred from the teams before the commencement of the tournament.
Head coach of the Mumbai Indians, Mahela Jayawardene said that mid-season transfers are good for IPL and the system should take a leaf out of football leagues’ book. The mid-season transfers in IPL came into existence in 2016 by transfer of Dale Steyn to Gujarat Lions franchise and he did not get a chance to play a single game throughout the season. There are no possibilities for mid-season transfers in IPL 2018 as the tournament will begin on 7th April 2018 with the match between the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings.
The adoption of mid-season transfers of players will be a great benefit for players who were kept reserved for a team and did not play for the team till the first half of the tournament. The teams who desperately need a better player to improve the position of the team will be happy with this resolution.
