What Got Wrong With RCB against KKR

The third game of the IPL 2018 took place at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.  The Kolkata Knight Riders led by Dinesh Karthik won the toss and chose to field first. Though the Royal Challengers Bangalore managed to make a good start by the knock of Brendon Mc Cullum and AB De Villiers, they lost the captain Virat Kohli and De Villiers on consecutive deliveries by Nitish Rana. Sunil Narine gave a good start to the KKR team. Though the RCB managed to pick wickets at regular intervals, they had to lose their cause at the end. Some of the reasons for the defeat of Royal Challengers Bangalore in this game were as follows. What Got Wrong With RCB against KKR

  1. Sunil Narine’s performance with the bat

This all-rounder became a hurdle for the Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier by his fastest fifty in the history of IPL off 15 balls. He made his fifty in just 17 balls in this game by slamming Woakes by 20 runs in the fourth over of the game and Washington Sundar as well. Sunil Narine opened the game along with Chris Lynn and thrashed two sixes and a four to make his half-century.

  1. Kohli’s unusual lack of timing

Virat Kohli is known for his perfect timing in the shortest form of cricket. He struggled to face the wrist-spinners in an unusual manner. He scored 31 runs off 33 balls and fell to Nitish Rana. This is an unusual failure of this skipper on a ground which favors the batsmen.

  1. The Partnership of Dinesh Karthik and Nitish Rana

The skipper Dinesh Karthik and Nitish Rana came into the crease after the dismissal of Robin Uthappa. The duo made a good stand of 55 runs after their entry in the eighth over. They built the innings with consistency by hitting occasional boundaries. When Rana departed in the bowling of Sundar, the team’s target was 39 runs off 33 balls.

  1. Inconsistent spin bowlers

Sundar conceded 19 runs in his second over and turned the match to the other side. Chahal also failed to create a terrific impact on the opponents. The duo could not play up to the mark to restrict the opponents from chasing the target. The team has a bunch of spinners and the captain failed to choose beyond this pair to turn the result of the game.

  1. Rana’s magnificent over

Nitish Rana did well with both the bat and the ball. He managed to dismiss Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers on consecutive balls. He managed to dismiss De Villiers after he hit a lightning six with the support of the captain Dinesh Karthik. In the next ball, he managed to bowl out Kohli with a Yorker. This howl turned the tables on the result of the game.
