The home matches of Chennai Super Kings were moved to Pune due to security constraints. The BCCI confirmed this news yesterday. Chennai Super Kings entered into the IPL after serving a ban period of two years. Their first home game took place at Chepauk stadium, Chennai against Kolkata Knight Riders. The yellow army registered a memorable victory in that match.
On the other hand, the home matches will be conducted at MCA stadium, Pune. With these additional matches, eight matches are scheduled to be staged at Pune including one eliminator match and one qualifier match to be held on 23rd and 25th May.
The officials of Chennai Super Kings franchise held a meeting with the local police yesterday to enquire if they can provide additional security for the rest of six home games to be held at Chennai. But the police could not provide assurance about this on account of agitations against Cauvery water issue. So, these games were scheduled to be conducted at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.
During the first game at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, the agitators protested outside the stadium. Despite tight security, the protestors threw pairs of shoes outside the boundary line and were expelled from the stadium later by the security personnel. With these incidents, the BCCI official Rajiv Shukla made an announcement regarding the shifting of venue of CSK home games from Chennai to Pune.
This is the second time the CSK has to play their home games outside Chennai. Earlier, they were insisted to play their home games at Ranchi due to the ban of Sri Lankan cricketers from playing in Chennai.
