The franchises released some of their players before the IPL auctions and some players were not retained by them using right to match card. Some players were called by the new franchises. These players are doing exceptionally well for their new teams. Let us have a look at some of them.
- Umesh Yadav
Umesh Yadav was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders before the IPL auctions. The KKR are top on the points table by taking the net run rate into account. But they missed out two strong pace bowlers Mitchell Johnson and Kamalesh Nagarkoti due to injuries. So, the franchise is regretting letting Umesh Yadav go. This pacer picked 7 wickets off 4 games for RCB this year and out of these 7, 3 wickets were picked in a single over. This pacer is in the best of his form and is doing great for his new franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore.
- Surya Kumar Yadav
He was called by the Mumbai Indians in 2012 but did not play a single game then. He was a regular player for Kolkata Knight Riders for 2014-17 and was an occasional match-winner. He got a call from Mumbai Indians for this season. He scored 612 runs for KKR in three years. He scored 124 runs off 4 games at an average of 32 at the strike rate of 132. He bagged the orange cap in this series for few hours before it was snatched away by Shikhar Dhawan.
- Chris Gayle
He was called by the Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2009. He did not do well according to the expectations and scored only 296 runs off 16 games in the first two editions. He was released by KKR and was bought by RCB and there he showed the world what he was. He was one of the players who changed the picture of IPL. In his debut match for RCB against KKR, he scored 102 runs off 55 balls and in the next game against Kochi Tuskers, he scored 107 off 49 balls and scored 37 runs in a single over. Due to his poor form in 2017 he was released by RCB and was bought by KXIP for current IPL edition. For KXIP, he scored a fifty in the first game and scored 105 off 63 balls in the previous game against SRH.
- KL Rahul
He played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the previous season and bears the mark of test cricket specialist. He scored 153 runs off 4 games for KXIP till now, his new franchise. He was bought by KXIP for a whopping sum of Rs.11 crore this year. However, his old team is missing him badly and the RCB suffered 3 losses from 4 games it played.
