World Cup 2019-India To Clash With South Africa In The Opening Game

India will take on South Africa in their first game of World cup 2019 on June 5th. The match will be held at Southampton and DeVilliers will lead the Proteas team.  The South Africans will encounter the hosts England on May 30th at the Oval. The final will be played at the Lords on 14th July  2019. The Schedule of the World cup designed by Chief Executives Committee, CEC is needed to be approved by the ICC.World Cup 2019-India To Clash With South Africa In The Opening GameThe Chief Executives Committee held a meeting to approve the schedule of the world cup 2019 yesterday at Kolkata. They again meet tomorrow to finalize the schedule.

Earlier, India is meant to play their first game on 2nd June but later, the date was shifted adhering to the recommendations of Lodha Committee to provide a 15-day gap between IPL and international date of Indian cricket team.  The IPL will take place tentatively between 29th March and 19th May 2019.

According to sources, the league fight between India and Pakistan will be staged at Old Trafford according to the tentative schedule. The Manchester ground has the history of staging super six games during 1999 World cup.

There are 11 venues for conducting 46 games of 2019 World cup including the Lords, namely, the Old Trafford, Headingley, Oval, Tentbridge, Edgbaston, Southampton, Cardiff, Chester-Le-street, Bristol, and Taunton. The tournament will be played by 10 teams and each team will play all the other 9 opponents. The top 4 teams will reach the semi-finals after round-robin league that was implemented in the 1992 world cup. The semi-finals will be held at the Old Trafford and Edgbaston.

The three knockout games, in addition to the final match, have a reserve day as an alternate date. This is the first world cup tournament scheduled to be played without any associate nation. The top eight teams including the hosts England and the defending champions Australia entered into the tournament based on the ICC rankings.  The two remaining places were bagged by West Indies and Afganistan. They were finalists of the World cup qualifier matches. West Indies won the final game of World cup qualifiers.
