Kolkata Knight Riders badly need a win for survival in this tournament and withstand the competition for the top position in the points table. They fell from the top position due to consecutive losses but have the potential to make a comeback. Their confidence levels were up by the victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Chennai Super Kings were happy with the win against Delhi DareDevils.
Match Begins In:
Chennai Super Kings stood at the top of the points table and answered all the criticisms in a unique manner by back to back wins in this tournament. They lost only two of their seven games and did well on their adopted home ground, Pune.
Half-centuries of Dhoni and Shane Watson against Delhi DareDevils helped to raise the spirits of Chennai Super Kings. Dhoni himself stood as one of the batting spearheads and did well as a captain throughout these eight matches. The team has a strong batting order with Ambati Rayudu, Sam Billings, and Dwayne Bravo.
Lungi Ngidi and KM Asif succeeded to restrict the Delhi DareDevils from making a huge score. Though the Kerala pacer KM Asif managed to pick a few wickets, he conceded 43 runs in a single game. But in the absence of pacer Deepak Chahar, the pacers Lungi Ngidi and KM Asif did an impressive job.
Ambati Rayudu scored 370 runs in this tournament and Shane Watson scored his best IPL knock of 106 runs in this season. Dhoni himself had the highest strike rate above 170 runs, striking off all the criticisms on him and the team with the title “old age home”. The spinners Imran Tahir and Harbhajan Singh are doing well in this tournament.
Kolkata Knight Riders need to win this game at any cost and have to win as many as games out of three upcoming matches to get a better position in the points table. They are over-dependent on the trio Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell.
Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine are doing well as openers and Russell is doing his best as a match-finisher. Robin Uthappa is hitting some knocks in the middle order but needs consistency. The team has the best middle-order with Nitish Rana and the skipper Dinesh Karthik. The team depends on spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Piyush Chawla. The flaw with the team is lack of good pace attack. Shubhman Gill did a very disappointing show by scoring 3,6,14,37 and 5 in the previous game and Shivam Mavi did inconsistently in the two previous games.
