In the beginning, all thought that Kolkata Knight Riders are in a better position than the visitors in the game played with Mumbai Indians yesterday at Eden Gardens. Rohit Sharma opted to send Ishan Kishan to bat in the top order and he changed the picture of the game by thrashing 62 runs off 21 balls.
After nine overs, Mumbai Indians scored 62/2. Ishan Kishan thrashed Kuldeep Yadav by 4 back to back sixes. He entered the crease and the team’s score was 72/2 by the end of 10th over and 144/2 by 15th over. Kishan achieved this feat by the excellent strike rate above 295 by obeying his captain Rohit Sharma. The skipper scored 18 runs for the stand of 82 runs for third-wicket.
Speaking about the team’s poor performance and Ishan Kishan’s cameo, Dinesh Karthik said “His innings, at that stage of the game, changed the course of the game. He batted really well and he played some nice shots. We bowled in areas he could have gotten out but he went over the fielders.”
The best performance of Kishan came in 17th over when he attacked Kuldeep Yadav. Out of six sixes, he scored four in the spell of Kuldeep. He scored his fastest half-century off 17 balls. This is the second fastest half-century in IPL 2018. Also, it helped Mumbai Indians to gain the required momentum and Ben Cutting made an impressive score of 9-ball 24 runs later. Kishan achieved this feat by excellent foot work and he knocked all his six hits in the spell of spinners.
Speaking about his plans to face Kuldeep Yadav, Ishan Kishan said “Kuldeep is outgoing for me (bowls the delivery that turns away from me) but he loves to bowl the googly at me. I’ve played him earlier as well. So I knew he is trying to get the ball outside the off stump,”
“My target was that if I get the ball in my arc, I just wanted to hit the ball out of the park. It was like keep watching the ball. If you get the ball, hit, otherwise you can go for a single as well. Rohit was batting with me, so there was no problem. I knew if I don’t score, he can cover up.”
This youngster got immense support from his team and was promoted to no.3 from no.4 despite three golden ducks. He slammed 40 runs off 29 balls against CSK and 44 off 23 balls against Delhi Daredevils. He has an impressive T20 record by scoring 1000 runs off 52 games at the strike rate above 130. This left-hander proved his potential by scoring 238 runs off 9 innings with a strike rate above 160. His achievement was the result of the team’s support in offering him a clear and stable role in the top order.
After his mind-blowing innings, Kishan said “They are always going to think good for me,” he said about the backing he has got from the think tank. “It’s always good for the youngster to bat up the order and when you have your skipper, and your team management, backing you, that’s the best part. I’m happy wherever I get to bat because, at the end of the day, it depends on what your team wants and how they want you to bat.
“I also get lots of tips from Dhoni bhai. He’s a legend player and he keeps telling me you can take time. Just read the situation and see how to build your innings. I feel confident when these guys talk to me.”
Hailing from Jharkhand, this wicket-keeper batsman proved his competency as the match-winner for the team.
