Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and chose to field first. Ishan Kishan slammed 62 runs off 21 runs and made the joint fastest fifty along with his teammate Kieron Pollard by scoring 50 runs off 17 balls.

On their favorite ground, Mumbai Indians handed a mammoth-like score of 210 runs off 20 overs by losing 6 wickets. They won their 18th game in the face to face combats out of which the opponents won only five games. With this victory, they got 10 points in the IPL table.

As an answer, the KKR made their one of the worst performances in the history of IPL. Sunil Narine began the game with a four but departed with the next ball. The Pandya brothers made it hard for Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa to settle down and make some hits. Chris Lynn lost his wicket to Krunal Pandya. Robin Uthappa and Nitish Rana tried to make the most of Powerplays and scored 47 runs by losing 2 wickets.  At that time, the team needed 164 runs off 84 balls.

Robin Uthappa made his way to the pavilion within 4 balls after the Powerplays.  Andre Russell also perished earlier. Dinesh Karthik was run out and Nitish Rana got dismissed for the next ball. The Mumbai pacers collapsed the opponents and the KKR lost 7 wickets for 76 runs by the end of 11th over and went submissively to the visitors.

Evin Lewis and Surya Kumar Yadav made a good start for Mumbai. Kuldeep Yadav dropped Ishan Kisha once and Lewis once. The KKR dropped three catches in this game. Kishan slammed Kuldeep Yadav by four back to back sixes. He shared a stand of 82 runs off 34 balls with the captain Rohit Sharma. Pandya brothers placed the crucial innings and Krunal Pandya finished the innings with a six. Ben Cutting scored 24 runs off 9 balls in the death overs in the spell of Piyush Chawla.
