IPL 2018-Players Who Led To Delhi’s Elimination

Delhi Daredevils entered in the IPL 2018 as one of the favorites with Gautam Gambhir as the new skipper. He is the title-lifting captain for KKR but now luck was not on his side and due to the poor performance he lost his place to Shreyas Iyer.Gautam Gambhir

With youngsters like Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant performing well, over-dependence on overseas players is one of the crucial reasons for their elimination. Here are some of the players who are the reason for the fall of Delhi DareDevils in this season.

  1. Gautam Gambhir

Gambhir was released from KKR franchise after a long relation with the team. He is responsible for KKR’s title wins twice. He voluntarily came to lead Delhi Daredevils this year. Undoubtedly, he is one of the best Indian batsmen in the IPL. He is third highest-scorer with 4000 IPL runs. He scored 498 runs off IPL 2017. Due to loss of 5 games from six, this skipper stepped down from his position and Shreyas Iyer was appointed the new captain. He scored only 85 runs off 6 games at an average of 17. His poor performance with the bat is one of the key reasons for the pressure over the team.

  1. Mohammed Shami

Due to the mess in the personal life and allegations by his wife, Mohammed Shami’s cricketing career fell into doubt. But he managed to get back the annual contract from BCCI and entered to play for Delhi Daredevils in this IPL season. But he failed to make the most out of the opportunities. He was expected to be the main pacer for the team but managed to pick three wickets off 4 games at an economy rate above 10. Over-dependence on this Indian pacer led to Delhi Daredevils’ elimination.

  1. Glenn Maxwell

He is expected to be one of the pinch-hitters for the team but could not do well with the bat. He was bought by the franchise for a huge sum of Rs.9 crores. He scored only 148 runs off 10 games at a poor average of 14.2. This 29-year old Aussie batsman failed to make an impact with the bat and his highest score in this series was 47 runs. He let the team down pathetically.
