Qualifier 1

Initially, the Chennai Super Kings made a good start with a marginal win against the defending champions, Mumbai Indians in the inaugural game. They seemed to be in an oscillating situation but bounced back with performances of Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni.

On the other hand, the Sunrisers Hyderabad faced a huge blow in the form of ball tampering scandal and lost their finest player, David Warner on account of the issue. But Kane Williamson filled the vacuum with his performance as a player as well as the captain. The bowling attack is the important asset for the team. Kane Williamson scored 30 percent of the team’s score in the league stage. This game seems a fight between the CSK’s batting and SRH’s bowling departments. Ironically, two out of five SRH’s defeats came from CSK.

Though CSK won nine of their league games, they lost their match to Delhi Daredevils in their penultimate league match. The team will not need to play at Eden Gardens if they win this game. However, CSK did not have a good record at Eden Gardens. The CSK has a record of 6-2 win-loss ratio against SRH. The comeback of Deepak Chahar and performances of Lungi Ngidi makes a strong pace attack for the team.

Coming to SRH, they won nine out of 11 games in the league stage before they lost three consecutive games last week. Basil Thampi, who was the emerging player for 2017 conceded 70 runs in his spell against Mumbai Indians and the performance of Sandeep Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Siddharth Kaul was at the line of fall and Rashid Khan also did not do well in the previous game. The injury woes of Yusuf Pathan added to the blues. Carlos Braithwaite may replace Yusuf Pathan as well.

Srivats Goswami did a great job as an opener in the previous league game. He may open the game or Alex Hales can come in the top order instead of Wriddhiman Saha. The team is over-dependent on Kane Williamson who scored 661 runs followed by Shikhar Dhawan whereas Deepak Hooda, Manish Pandey, and Wriddhiman Saha are the underperformers this season.

The key battles of this game may be between Ambati Rayudu-Rashid Khan and MS Dhoni-Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Rayudu slammed Rashid Khan with 38 runs off 25 balls and Dhoni has the strike rate of 185 against Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Coming to Chennai Super Kings line-up, Shane Watson may open the game along with Sam Billings or Faf Du Plessis. Harbhajan Singh has a strong association with Wankhede for 10 seasons but he was successfully replaced by Karn Sharma in the game against KXIP. If the team wants to add a wrist-spinner to the team, Karn Sharma will be their choice. Ambati Rayudu slammed 79 runs and 100* against SRH in this season.
