Chennai Super Kings made a startling performance to enter the finals of IPL 2018 yesterday in the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 1. Though they went up to the edges of defeat, they managed to win the game by the performance of Faf Du Plessis. Though Du Plessis witnessed all his teammates collapsing, he added 67 runs off 42 balls to guide his team towards the crucial win.
Faf Du Plessis made an outstanding performance though in form players like Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni departed at poor scores. Suresh Raina added 22 runs off 12 balls and Dwayne Bravo also got dismissed earlier. The CSK was in a critical situation when the team lost 6 wickets for the score of 62 runs.
Though Chahar and Shardul Thakur hit some impressive shots, the load was shouldered entirely by Du Plessis. He scored only 21 runs from 24 balls out of 13 overs but managed to add 46 runs off 18 balls to lead the team towards victory. Earlier, Shane Watson opened the game along with Du Plessis but got out within a few overs.
Ironically, like the game against Kings XI Punjab on Sunday, CSK managed to make only 33 runs off 6 overs. They scored 33/3 after Powerplays. Sandeep Sharma, Rashid Khan, and Siddharth Kaul picked two wickets and Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked one wicket. Rashid Khan troubled the opponents with 14 dot balls in his spell. Du Plessis made the most out of his experience by facing Rashid Khan with his patient and wise batting.
In the first innings, Chennai Super Kings managed to restrict the opponents for 139/7 off 20 overs. They won the toss and chose to field first. Shardul Thakur, who did very poorly with the ball in this game, hit some brilliant shots for the tenth wicket partnership. He scored three boundaries in the nineteenth over.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad lost Shikhar Dhawan for the first ball. Kane Williamson scored 24 runs and Shakib Al Hasan and Shreevats Goswami were very brilliant to take crucial catches for the team. Though the team lost 6 wickets for 88 runs, Carlos Braithwaite and Bhuvneshwar Kumar added 51 runs to rebuild the innings. Ravindra Jadeja picked one wicket and Dwayne Bravo picked two wickets for CSK.
