Consistent fast bowlers are the asset for any team. In the shortest format of cricket, they play a crucial role. Back to the history, we have seen Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and RP Singh who played a crucial role in the victories of their respective teams. RP Singh picked 23 wickets for Deccan Chargers in 2009, Jasprit Bumrah picked 20 wickets in 2017 for Mumbai Indians, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked 23 wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 in the respective title-clinching seasons.
This year, most of the franchises picked consistent Indian speedsters like Jayadev Unadkat, Shivam Mavi, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, and Sandeep Sharma to save the budget. Let us take a glance at some of the pacers who may not play IPL again.
- Munaf Patel
He played 13 tests and 70 ODIs for India since 2006. He troubled the batsmen with his consistent line and length but was frequently out of the team due to injury woes. He was left unsold for the current season. He played 63 IPL games and picked 74 wickets at an economy rate of 7.51. He played only 6 games in the last five years.
- Ashok Dinda
He was one of the consistent domestic cricketers. He picked around 500 wickets for Bengal. He represented Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Rising Pune Supergiants. He picked 68 wickets from 78 IPL games at an economy rate around 8.22. In the previous season, he picked only one wicket out of three games.
- Ishant Sharma
This Delhi pacer was one of the popular speedsters in the test cricket format. He picked 234 test wickets and 115 ODI wickets in his career. He played 76 IPL games and picked 59 wickets at an economy rate of 8.17. He was left unsold for the base price of Rs.75 lakhs. He picked only 7 wickets off 17 games since the last four seasons. He did not pick a single wicket in 2017 at an economy rate of 9.94.
- Irfan Pathan
He played 26 test matches, 120 ODIs, and 24 T20Is for the country. This 33-year old player was sold for $1.90 million in 2011 for Delhi Daredevils. He picked more than 300 wickets in his career. He picked 169 wickets from 172 T20 games at an economy rate of 7.55. He scored 2500 runs in the international cricket. He played 103 IPL games and picked 80 wickets at an economy rate of 7.77. He scored 1000 IPL runs and did not pick a single wicket in his last five IPL games.
- Praveen Kumar
He played 10 tests, 68 ODI games, and 10 T20s and picked more than 100 wickets in his career. He played 119 IPL games and picked 90 wickets at an economy rate of 7.72. He was left unsold in 2018 though he played for Gujarat Lions, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai Indians, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Though he has a consistent swing, he played fewer games due to frequent injury woes.
