5 Players IPL Franchisees Regretted Letting Go

Some of the hasty decisions made by some IPL franchises proved to be perilous in the long run. As the time for IPL auctions arrived, let us recall some decisions that proved to be backfired regarding the auction of players.

Some decisions made by the franchises earlier proved to be damaging when the players sold by them earlier performed well for the other teams. Here are 5 players that the previous franchises regret letting go.

  1. Chris Gayle(KKR to RCB)

This Carribean player was on the side of Kolkata KnightRiders in the first three seasons OF IPL where he had a tough phase. But his statistics for Royal Challengers Bangalore surprise us, he being one of the greatest performers in IPL all-time records. His worst performance for KKR made the management put him on the auction list for the fourth season but the management still regret their decision seeing his performance in RCB since the fourth season of IPL till date. Gayle’s debut against KKR  after entering RCB team is an outstanding 100 that added to the remorse of KKR.

He entered the team as a substitute for all-rounder Dirk Nannes. Some of his significant scores are 175 not out against Sahara Pune Warriors and an outstanding total of 733 runs in IPL 2012 season.

  1. Dwayne Bravo(MI to CSK)

Bravo, being the most valuable player for the Chennai SuperKings team since four seasons, was out from the MI team for an unknown reason earlier. The team sold him out for a petty sum of $200,000. The MI management still regrets their decision. He played for MI in two seasons and did great with bat besides chipping more than 10 wickets in each season.

Bravo became an adorable player for the Chennai folks by picking 36 wickets in his first season for the CSK team and continued his vigor with 26 wickets in IPL 2014.

  1. AB DeVilliers(DD to RCB)

AB DeVilliers

DeVilliers played for DD in earlier seasons. The biggest mistake made by the DareDevils management is to let him go. He entered into RCB team in 2011 and became the definition of aggressive performance. He is getting six folded remuneration when compared to his first remuneration in 2011.

Some of the glimpses of his performance are his score of 23 runs in a single over in bowling of Dale Steyn and score of 133 runs off 59 balls against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede in 2015.

  1. Gautam Gambhir(DD to KKR)

Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir left DD for team KKR in 2011 making DD free from all the star players. This is the repeated mistake made by the franchise for no specific cause. The team lost this local boy who made 1000 runs in three seasons for DareDevils in the most expensive deal of the auction 2011.

Besides doing great with the bat, he led the KKR team for three seasons wiping off all the criticisms about a huge deal of $2.4 million on him. He scored 300 runs or more in each season and stood as the fourth highest scorer in the IPL with 4132 runs.

  1. David Warner(DD to SRH)

David Warner, the present captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad team is undoubtedly an outstanding performer and a formidable batsman. This is one of the blunders made by the DareDevils team, letting him go the next year they signed him up for their team.

He got orange caps in years 2015 and 2017. He missed the hat-trick in 2016 to Kohli who made 973 runs, though Warner made 848 runs in that season.

Warner joined the Dare Devils team in 2009 and was in auctions in 2013. The DD management made the mistake of selling him out in 2014. He turned out to be an outstanding player for the Sunrisers team and played a key part in winning the tournament for the team in 2016. This is the batting magic and aggressive captaincy of Warner that made the team bag the title.
