Karun Nair became famous by scoring 300 runs against England in 2016. He did not make a good show since then but made decent scores in IPL for Kings XI Punjab in the current season. He was placed in the test team led by Ajinkya Rahane for the single test against Afghanistan on 14th June at Bangalore. He expressed his confidence to perform well against Afghanistan.
He said to Times of India that “It’s time we all moved on and looked ahead,” he said on Monday. “I am ready to get bigger scores… Not bigger scores, if I can get it again, it’ll be good but you’re not thinking of that, you’re just looking to perform for the team and win games for them.”
He played his last test match against Australia and India played 12 test matches later. His highest score since that time was 26 runs. He played many matches for India-A but did not make impressive performances. This is a very crucial chance for him to cement his position in the team.
“I’m really excited to be given another opportunity. It has been a while now,” he expressed his excitement.
“I have worked very hard over the last one-and-a-half years. I know that I have become better. You know that you’re going to get a few innings and you have to make the most of it,”
“It has been the case with everyone. If you settle down and keep making consistent scores then you have some breathing space.” He added.
He said he has been working hard for two years to get back into the team.
”I have become fitter. I have improved my skills over the last two years. I think I have done a lot and scoring runs in domestic cricket really helps. I have worked on my fielding and every aspect of the game. I know that I am a better batsman now than I was two years ago. I’d like to take that confidence into everything that I do,” he concluded.
