Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian captain slammed the Delhi Cricket Association for not selecting Navdeep Saini earlier. This uncapped pacer got his first national call-up to replace Mohammed Shami who failed yo-yo test. Earlier, the BCCI made it mandatory for the players to clear the yo-yo test to get selected into the national team.
Gautam Gambhir pointed the selection committee of Delhi including veteran cricketers like Bishan Singh Bedi for ignoring the youngster earlier showing his domicile status as a hurdle to get the national call as he belongs to Haryana and played for Delhi. He was called as an outsider and was not included in the Ranji team of Delhi.
Gambhir used Twitter as the platform to criticize Bishan Singh Bedi and Chetan Chauhan after Saini was called into the team to replace Shami for one-off test against Afghanistan. Earlier, with the support of Gambhir, Saini played for Roshanara club associated with Delhi Association for the season 2013-14.
Navdeep Saini is yet to play for the country. He picked 96 wickets from 31 first -class matches and bagged 34 wickets in the Ranji trophy for 2017-18. He picked 31 wickets from 20 India-A games.
