The Afghans made a good comeback after the first session of Day1 in the first test match against India though thrashed by the Indian batsmen. This may be the worst experience on the first day of their game but they encountered the situation with confidence, probably the worst situation on the first day of their first-ever test match in the history. Regardless of results, they gave a good fight to their strong opponents.
Earlier, the speedsters of Afghanistan could not contribute wickets for the team. So the captain had to choose Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi to bowl. But, they were slammed by the Indian openers Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan made his ton in the first session itself. Both the openers thrashed the Afghan spinners with singles and boundaries.
At that time, rain interrupted the match. In the last session, the Afghan bowlers bowled with all their might and picked 5 wickets for 63 runs. Mohammed Nabi and Rashid Khan did great and picked each wicket in the last half of their spell. Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, and KL Rahul managed to keep on the momentum but in the second spell, the Indians gave up their wickets faster. After the dismissal of KL Rahul, Cheteswar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane were prone to the pressure by Afghan bowlers.
Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Zadran managed to pressurize the hosts by attacking the stumps and continuous appeals. They managed to restrict the opponents with all their strength. The captain has to rely on the spinners because Ravichandran Ashwin and Hardik Pandya seemed troubled by them on the first day.
In fact, Hardik Pandya is known for his elegant styles against spinners. But, he seemed to be defensive yesterday. Hence, starting with two spinners will be a good move for the Afghans to restrict the Indians below 400 runs and pick the rest of the wickets at an ease. The Afghan fielders are known for missing out the simple catches against Bangladesh. Hence, the close-in fielders should strive hard to make tough catches. Otherwise, they have to face another pathetic day if they cannot dismiss Indian bowlers earlier.
