The Indian Captain Virat Kohli, currently rested for the single test against Afghanistan took the Yo-Yo test along with former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni before a long tour to England. The Yo-Yo test was set as the primary parameter for fitness test for any player who was selected to any tour. Surprising thing is, Kedar Jadhav, who was not selected for any of the series took the yo-yo test in advance. The test was conducted under the supervision of physical trainer of team India Shankar Basu. Virat Kohli, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and Suresh Raina took the test. He did not show any signs of discomfort during the yo-yo test as he took paces along with Dhoni.
The scores were not revealed but the minimal score to clear the yo-yo test was 16.1. Though the yo-yo test was the minimal requirement to get selected for the tour, his situation related to his neck injury was still in doubt. He complained of the sore back after the completion of the test. There were doubts about his availability to T20I series against Ireland from 27th June to 29th June.
The long tour of India to England comprises of five test matches, three ODIs, and three T20Is. This tour begins on 3rd July.
The next batch of players including Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Siddharth Kaul, Manish Pandey, and Yuzwendra Chahal will take the Yo-yo test after the completion of tests for Kohli and Dhoni.
The media were restricted from the premises of the test by the National Cricket Academy officials. Earlier, there was news about Mohammed Shami and Sanju Samson failing the yo-yo test and Navdeep Saini and Karun Nair got the national call-up instead of the former duo. India is playing the one-off test against Afghanistan at Bangalore.
