Another Indian cricketer may miss out the tours of England and Ireland due to yo-yo test. He is none other than the hit-man, Rohit Sharma. He may miss out the tours if he cannot clear the yo-yo test today. Earlier, Ambati Rayudu, Sanju Samson, and Mohammed Shami fell victims to yo-yo test. The BCCI decided to make the benchmark of 16.1 in the yo-yo test mandatory to get selected for the teams that tour overseas.
Rohit is going to take yo-yo test at National Cricket Academy, Bangalore after getting training to get through the test. He earlier took permission from the BCCI to attend the test today on account of IPL. He could not get through the test in the past two attempts amidst IPL.
One of the Administration committee members Saba Karim said that the tests were being conducted now against the normal protocol as they cannot be conducted amidst of IPL. Ajinkya Rahane was called as the standby player if Rohit fails to clear the yo-yo test.
Though Ambati Rayudu did a splendid performance in the IPL, he lost the opportunity to play in the limited overs side due to the yo-yo test rule.
The failure of Mohammed Shami handed an opportunity to Navdeep Saini and Ambati Rayudu’s failure in the yo-yo test gave an opportunity to Suresh Raina after three years of absence in the limited-overs cricket.
If Rohit fails this test, the result will impact his career badly as the England and Ireland tours will be decisive to select the players for World cup 2019. Rohit is facing tough phase in his career due to poor batting form but he expressed optimism for a bounceback.
On the other hand, some of the experts opined that yo-yo test should not be taken as the only criterion to judge the fitness of the players as the result may impact their career.
