Ishan Porel and Shubhman Gill played a key role in sailing team India to U19 ICC world cup finals. They made an outstanding performance to beat Pakistan in the second semi-final at Christchurch today.
While Shubhman Gill did a splendid job to score an unbeaten hundred to make the team score 272 for 9 wickets, Ishan Porel succeeded in restricting the opponent team to score 69 runs all out. This is the Pakistan team’s lowest score in the U19 one-day international format and it is the worst performance of the team to lose by 203 runs.
Earlier, India made a good start choosing to bat on winning the toss. Openers Manjot Kalra and Captain Prithvi Shaw made an 89 run partnership for the first wicket, laying a strong base to the team’s Innings. Pakistan sweated hard to break their partnership but dropped many chances before the captain got run out. Before that he survived from two run-out instances.
India did its best before Shaheen Afridi got into the field. After the dismissal of Prithvi Shaw after 16 overs, Manoj Kalra got out in the bowling of Muhammed Musa 2 overs later. Shubhman Gill and Harvik Desai worked on bringing the team to stability.
When Harvik Desai got dismissed, India is in a stable position with score 148 for 2. Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag also got dismissed within a short time after this. Anukul Roy and Gill strived to rebuild the innings afterward.
Though the Indians strived hard to get a huge score, the continuous fall of wickets did not give the chance. However, Gill was able to score his crucial ton in the last over, being the first player to score a century in India VS Pakistan U19 cricket world cup matches. He succeeded to beat Salman Butt’s record of 85 not out in 2002 season.
Gill’s century is the highest score of Indian batsmen in this season as it beat Prithvi Shaw’s unbeaten 94 against Australia in the league matches.
From the beginning of Pakistan Innings, they were under great pressure. Though the pacers did a great work in limiting men in blue against a huge score, the batsmen could not keep working consistently.
When Indian pacer Shivam Mavi succeeded in giving three maiden overs among first four overs of his spell and pressurizing the opponents to a great extent, Porel took it forward by taking four wickets and collapsing the Pakistanis to 28 runs for 4 wickets.
Pakistan struggled to move the scoreboard as the Indians are great at fielding. From 28 for 4 wickets and 45 for 7 wickets, the Pakistan innings ended up at 69 runs all out and laid their way for eviction from the tournament.
India scored 272/9 and Shubhman Gill being the top scorer 102 not out and beat Pakistan by 203 runs by winding up the opponents at the score of 69 runs all out in 29.3 overs.
Mohammed Musa dismissed 4 Indian batsmen giving away 67 runs and Ishan Porel took 4 wickets giving 17 runs.
