Nepal acquired ODI status by finishing at the eighth position in the World Cup Qualifier earlier this year. Netherlands lost their ODI status in 2014 but they regained their position by winning in the WCL 2015-2017. A schedule was planned by the ICC to play the ODI series between Nepal and the Netherlands this August. This is a two ODI series, the first ODI will be played on 1st August and the second ODI will be played on 3rd August
The first game will be played at Voorburg CC, near the Hague and the second match will be played at the VRA ground near the Amsterdam Suburb of Amstelveen. Nepal stood ahead of Hong Kong and Papua New Guinea in the World Cup Qualifier this year. The details of the two-ODI series between Nepal and the Netherlands was announced by the Netherlands Cricket Board, KNCB earlier.
This is the first ODI series for the Netherlands since 2014 after attaining the ODI status back and the first ODI for Nepal after gaining the ODI series. Sandeep Lamicchane, one of the youngest spinners in the world who played for many international leagues is one of the crucial players for Nepal. He was picked by the Delhi Daredevils franchise for IPL 2018. Earlier this year, Nepal was included in the ICC ODI rating table that accommodates 12 ODI playing nations including UAE, Scotland, and the Netherlands.
In this context, the coach for the Netherlands team, Ryan Campbell said that “It’s going to be a fantastic series for both countries as it will be our first ODI since regaining our status lost in 2014, it will also be Nepal’s first ODI ever,”
“These games also present us with another opportunity to expose our youngsters to top quality cricket and I’m excited to keep watching their development.” He added.
