India and South Africa had a very interesting combat in the Test series which was drawn 2-1 in favor of the hosts. The coming up is the ODI series, and India is not going to take chances with their performance as the team already has tasted a defeat.
South Africa, however, suffered a massive loss as their star player AB de Villiers is ruled out of the first three ODIs of the six-match series because of his finger injury. We remind you that the first match of the series will be played on February 1, don’t miss the preview of the first ODI for India vs. South Africa, we have done for you.
It will be interesting to see how the two teams fight in the ODIs, as for South Africa it is important to protect their top ranking in the ODIs, while second-ranked India will want to replace hosts to make take the top position. The absence of de Villiers provides an opportunity to India to put pressure on kangaroos. As per the statement made by the Cricket South Africa, AB de Villiers injured his right index finger during the third Test in Johannesburg. He is given two weeks period so that he can recover.
Speaking of the numbers, South Africa has to either win or draw the series to retain their first position, while if India wins the series by 4-2 or better it will replace hosts to rank number one in the ODI ranking. But for India situation is more intense, as if hosts win the series by 5-1 or better, India will slip from the second rank to make way for England.
South African team expects AB de Villiers to rejoin the team in the fourth ODI on February 10 at Johannesburg. There is no name forward for the replacement.
