Improvements India Need To Clinch The 3rd ODI

India clinched the three T20I series against England. They won their first ODI against India by a margin of 8 wickets and lost the second ODI by 86 runs, a massive difference. They will play their deciding ODI against England today. Here are the points India need to watch on to win the series. Improvements India Need To Clinch The 3rd ODI

  1. Intent

MS Dhoni lost his wicket when the team needed 12 runs per over off 11 overs and the rest of the batting line-up collapsed with his dismissal. The team needed to keep on the momentum created by the captain by scoring runs. But they failed due to lack of the intent to win. He was criticized by English fans as well as Indian fans at Lords where he scored landmark of 10000 runs. The lack of the spirit to win the game cannot be the excuse for a cricketer Dhoni who is playing since the reign of Sachin Tendulkar. He was being criticized by experts like Nasser Hussain for giving up. Failure in the single game would not suffice to judge his ability but he lacked a good hand after the dismissal of Hardik Pandya.

  1. Lack of Consistent Speedster

The absence of Jasprit Bumrah is a serious blow for the Indian team in the crucial moment. The trio of Umesh Yadav, Siddharth Kaul, and Hardik Pandya was expensive and failed to pick the sufficient number of wickets. The performance of Kuldeep Yadav and Chahal compensated the failures of the speedsters but this doesn’t go well on the more steep ground at Headingley. India needs to replace Sidhharth Kaul with Shardul Thakur or Krunal Pandya if Bhuvneshwar Kumar is not fit enough to play the third ODI.

  1. Team Composition

To rebuild the frail middle order, KL Rahul, MS Dhoni, and Suresh Raina should be rested and Dinesh Karthik must be given a chance instead of any one player from the above trio.

MS Dhoni

Dhoni’s poor batting performance is one of the causes for the defeat of the team in the second ODI. However, Dinesh Karthik, who did great in the Nidahas tournament did not get a chance to play in this series. This is a point of contention among most of the experts. The selectors may frown at the decision of dropping this experienced player but trying out new combinations has the possibility to change the result of the game.

KL Rahul

KL Rahul did well in the first T20I against England but did not make a decent score in rest of the tour. Rahul was a duck out in the second ODI against England. Dinesh Karthik might be included in the team instead of this keeper-batsman though the management might not consider this option so easily.

Suresh Raina

He is in poor form in the current situation but bowled a maiden over as the sixth bowler in the first ODI. If the team needs a keeper-batsman, Dinesh Karthik will play for the team to replace Suresh Raina.
