The limited overs series in India’s tour to England came to an end and the test series is about to commence from 1st August 2018 at Edgbaston. The selectors announced the 18-man squad for the test series against England for three test matches out of five that include youngsters like Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant. Though India tops the ICC test ratings, England seems unbeatable on their home ground. Here are some of the players who have the ability to guide India towards the victory in the test series.
- Ishant Sharma
He played along with Virat Kohli in the state team and showed his best performance in 2008 against Australia. He was an expensive bowler earlier but since all these years, he improved his bowling skills and précised his economy rate. His height and county experience are the biggest assets that have the ability to hand India a memorable series victory.
- Cheteswar Pujara
He is one of the experienced test players for India. This Saurashtra batsman is known for his competency to stand for long hours on the crease and record a consistent score. His potential to stand on the crease and make singles and twos will be a good support for batsmen like KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli. His steady batting style will be a ray of hope for the team to clinch the test series and secure the top position.
- Ajinkya Rahane
He led the team for the one-off test against Afghanistan, the debut test match for the latter. He is a perfectionist when it comes to the technique and has the potential to stick as the perfect batsman in the middle order. Though he did not make huge scores in the recent past, he is one of the batsmen India can trust at the need of the hour. He is the vice-captain for the test team and slammed reasonable scores for India A in the recent tri-series against England Lions and West Indies A.
- Virat Kohli
He is undoubtedly the best batsman in the world. He is one of the most successful captains of the team India. He is known for exceptional batting skills and he stood as the match winner since all these years when the team needs a victory by huge margins. He stood as the fastest captain to score 3000 ODI runs off 49 innings and the best batsman with 911 rating points in the ICC rankings. India lost a test series to England by 3-1 in 2014 but the team seems stronger and consistent than the past and he is one of the dependable players who can guide the team towards the win in the test series.
