India A got a huge blow from England Lions in the second test match after their win in the first test match against West Indies A. India A made a poor start after they lost two openers to chase 421 runs. Both the openers Murali Vijay and Prithvi Shaw departed for ducks.
Prithvi Shaw scored a half-century in the first innings and Murali Vijay scored 8 runs. This is Vijay’s consecutive poor show. English bowlers Dominic Bess, Sam Curran, and James Porter picked two wickets each and Chris Woakes, Leach, and Fisher managed to pick one wicket each.
Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant worked to rebuild the innings and slammed 48 and 61 respectively. Unfortunately, Rahane missed out two opportunities to score half-centuries. He scored 49 runs in the first innings and 48 runs in the second innings.
Rishabh Pant managed to slam a decent score and got an opportunity to represent the senior team in the test series against England. Murali Vijay failed in the second test match and Shikhar Dhawan was in poor form. Hence, India needs to search for a consistent opener to replace Murali Vijay. Karun Nair also did not do well in the second test and he may not get a chance to play for the test team against England. However, Mohammed Siraj picked seven wickets from two test matches but surprisingly, he did not get a chance to play for the test team in the upcoming series.
Earlier, the selectors announced 18-men squad to play the first three test matches against England that included Kuldeep Yadav, Rishabh Pant, and Mohammed Shami.
The first test match between India and England will commence on August 1st at Edgbaston.
England Lions 423, Alistair Cook 180, Mohammed Siraj 4/79 and 194/5 declared, Dawid Malan 56, Mohammed Siraj 3/55
India A 197 all out, Prithvi Shaw 62, Sam Curran 5/43 and 167 all-out, Rishabh Pant 61 and Sam Curran 2/17
