Jasprit Bumrah is one of the consistent pacers for India and stood in the top in the ICC ODI ratings for bowlers. He was out of the England limited-overs series due to an injury to the left thumb. This Gujarati speedster’s absence is a massive blow for Indian team ahead of the upcoming test series. Anonymous BCCI official said that the surgery for his left thumb was not very successful and he needs time to recover.
The official said to the press that “It is a displaced fracture on the left-hand thumb. From what I know, the operation wasn’t a great success,”
“I guess technically he is out for 3-4 weeks but being a bowler and injury in his non-bowling hand, the team management might gamble if there is an emergency or they can make him play with the bandages,” he added.
His name was included in the squad for the three test matches off five against England. He sustained an injury to the left thumb when he tried to stop a run in the second T20I at Malahide against Ireland. He will be available for selection for the match at the Lords on 9th August.
The latest news that the surgery for his thumb was not successfully put the availability of Bumrah for the test series into doubt. Though he sustained an injury for the non-bowling thumb, he needs more time to recover. The official added that in case of emergency, he will be selected into the team and can bowl with a bandage to the injured hand.
However, India has some potential bowlers like Shardul Thakur, Hardik Pandya, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, and Ishant Sharma. Ishant Sharma is one of the most consistent bowlers with experience and expertise and the pair of Umesh Yadav and Hardik Pandya did consistently in the ODI series.
On the other hand, another pacer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was included in the test team flew back home due to injury woes.
