The Indian U-19 team won their first fixture against Sri Lanka at Colombo yesterday. The team is on a five-match limited over the series tour to Sri Lanka.
A disciplined all-round performance from the Indian side helped them to thrash the hosts by six wickets in the first ODI.
Indian bowlers were to be credited with the win as they were able to easily restricted the Lankan side for a paltry 143 in just 38.4 overs. Skipper Nipun Dananjaya’s decision to bat first brutally backfired. Guest bowlers’ owned the P Sara Oval when they bowled Lankans back to the pavilion.
None of the Lankan U-19 batsmen were able to contribute any useful figure and only 5 of them were able to reach double figures. Only skipper Perera (33 off 45 balls) and Nipun Malinga (38 off 39 balls) were to be credited with taking their team close to the 150-mark.
Ajay Dev Goud was the most one with most wickets (3/18) while Mohit Jangra, Ayush Badoni, and Yatin Mangwani all took two wickets each. One picket was picked by Siddharth Desai as well.
Following the rampage of the Indian bowlers, guest batsmen were easily able to achieve at the target in 37.1 overs. A solid 50 by opener Anuj Rawat backed with useful contributions from Sameer Choudhary (31*) and Aryan Juyal (20) took India for an easy win.
For the Lankan side, Lakshitha Manasinghe picked two wickets while both Avishka Lakshan and Sandun Mendis scalped one wicket each.
The second ODI of the five-match series will be played on August 2 at Colombo.
