England may play Ben Stokes for the second test match against India as he might face a trial in the issue of thrashing a person in the nightclub last September. The trial may be postponed if he is ill but on August 6th he might face the trial for sure
He is only the optional player for the second test on account of the trial though he is pleading not guilty. On the other hand, the second test match will commence on 9th August and Stokes needs to attend the court on 6th August at Bristol. However, there are chances for inclusion of Ben Stokes in the second game if the court is adjourned for inevitable reasons.
The possibility of playing Ben Stokes is nominal in the second test. If the hearing takes place on 6th and 7th August, he will be included in the team or if the court is adjourned due to illness, Stokes may play for the team as usual. But, there is less possibility of the above cases.
Earlier, Ben Stokes missed out the series on account of slamming a stranger during the ODI series against West Indies at Bristol in September 2017. In addition, he lost the opportunity to play in the rest of the ODI series and Ashes Series last year. He suffered a lot of injury woes earlier this year and entered the team for the series against India after a poor performance in IPL 2018 for Rajasthan Royals. England lost the Ashes series by 4-0 in his absence. Hence, the selectors are waiting badly to accommodate this all-rounder in the second test match.
In the first test against India yesterday, he made only 21 runs for the team in the first Innings. The team lost 5 wickets quickly after the dismissal of Joe Root who slammed 80 runs. They were 285/9 by the end of the day.
