Harbhajan Singh is acting as the commentator for the first test match against England. Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed four players in the first innings and dismissed Alistair Cook for 0 at the second innings. He said that this is the best performance of Ashwin outside the subcontinent.
He said “This is the best I have seen Ashwin bowl outside the subcontinent. He has done very well over the years but most of his wickets have come in the subcontinent. Wickets don’t come easy back home either, but when the conditions are favorable, you tend to get more confidence,”
“When you are trying too much, it means you are not doing enough with your stock ball. Here in England, all those carom balls and googlies won’t make much of a difference because it doesn’t spin that much. It’s crucial to deceive the batsman in flight if a spinner has to be successful in England and that’s exactly what Ashwin did,” he added.
Ashwin managed to dismiss Cook, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, and Stuart Board in the first innings and again in the second innings, he dismissed Cook at 0. Harbhajan felt that Ashwin stuck to the basic spin style other than googlies and carom balls to misguide batsmen and get them out.
Virat Kohli slammed 149 runs, more than half of the score of the rest of the team members. India lost all their batsmen at the score of 274 by the third day and England ended their first innings at the score of 287 runs.
