India Makes A Thrilling Comeback In Third Test

Indians showed a fighting spirit in the Trent Bridge test by the all-round performance. In the five-game series, India registered a lead of 292 runs in the third test and made a show worthy of their top position in the ICC test rankings. The all-round performance of the Indians kept the chances of winning the series alive. They gave a tough fight with the bat but by the end of the day, they could hand only 22 runs by losing 4 wickets at the session end.

Hardik Pandya, Ishant Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah picked quick wickets and Hardik Pandya registered his career best by picking 5 wickets by conceding 28 runs. Before lunch, Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings made a stand of 46 runs from 9 overs by the lunch session. By the first session, the English were bowled out for 161 runs in the first innings.

Stuart Board picked the wicket of Ravichandran Ashwin in the first innings. In the previous two tests, toss played the role of the dark knight and in the third test England won the toss and elected to field.  This decision proved wrong in the third test since India made crucial changes in their batting line up.

KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan made the stand of 50 runs for the first wicket and Dhawan made an important knock for the first time in this series. He made 50 runs stand in both the innings with KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah tried his best to uproot the batting line-up of England with his pace attack. However, Rishabh Pant’s first ball six is a memorable record for the Indians and Hardik Pandya made a slow and steady performance. Shikhar Dhawan was stumped at the score of 44 runs. Cheteshwar Pujara also made a decent score. The newcomer Rishabh Pant made five stumpings and a considerable score with the bat. With the performance in the third test, Pandya answered the criticism by Michael Holding about his place in the team.

India had a poor overseas record in the test format and they lost the first test in the series at a nominal margin. Since there are three days to go and they registered a lead of 292 runs, the visitors are looking forward to clinching this game.
