Bangladesh is suffering a lot of injury woes before Asia cup. One of the popular batsmen from Bangalesh, Mominul was recalled for Asia cup to play for the team today. This is an ordeal for the Bangladesh team before upcoming world cup season since this tournament is very prestigious like the world cup.
Tamim Iqbal injured his thumb and Nazimul Hossain, uncapped left-handed batsmen hurt his finger during a practice session. The member of the selection committee, Habibul Bashar, said about the inclusion of Mominul into the team that “He is a top-order batsman, who can play as an opener or in (the) one-down position. So we thought his inclusion might be useful in the tournament,”
“We are hopeful they will both play. But we thought Mominul might play just in case they feel any problem,” he added.
In addition, the team is suffering from fitness issues with the likes of the captain Shakib Al Hassan. His finger surgery was postponed to October on account of Asia cup 2018. India, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong play for Pool A in the Asia cup 2018, UAE, and Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan will play for Pool B.
Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan told to the press that he is 20-30 percent fit to play the Asia cup. But the coach Stephen Rhodes felt that he is fitter than he thinks. Rhodes said that “I don’t believe he is 20-30 percent fit. I think he is a lot fitter than that,”
“He is not fully fit. But if he plays anything like he played in the Caribbean, then that will be a massive asset to Bangladesh cricket,” he said about the fitness of the Bangladesh captain.
Shakib Al Hasan scored 190 from three ODIs against West Indies to hand the team a series victory by 2-1. Mominul played 26 ODIs and he bowled his last ODIs back to 2015 World cup. In the recent tour of Ireland, he scored 182 runs off 132 balls. Mominul is a test specialist all-rounder for Bangladesh.
