Ravindra Jadeja proved what he can yesterday. He slammed 86 runs to rebuild Indian innings in the oval test. On the third day of the fifth test against England, he scored unbeaten 86 runs when the Indians are facing an ordeal when all their top order collapsed on the second day of the game.As coach of Indian team Ravi Shastri said, India and Jadeja are facing a testing period to prove themselves. They fell from a strong condition of 101/2 to 176/6. All the experts predicted that 205 is the maximum score India can do in that situation. But Ravindra Jadeja stood strong to slam 86 runs in the first innings to hand India a decent score of 294 runs. The English were all out for 205 runs in the first innings and by the end of day three, they are leading the scoreboard by 154 runs.
Like his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin, Jadeja has the opportunity to play only in the test team and India needs to play an overseas test series again in December. Hence, he has to do great in the sole opportunity he got after four test matches. He was expected to play in Edgbaston test but due to selection errors, he lost his place to Kuldeep Yadav in the Lord’s test. However, he proved himself as an all-rounder in the fifth test match. Kuldeep Yadav was wicket-less in the two tests and hence he lost his place and was sent back to India making the place to Jadeja.
Jadeja picked four wickets in the first innings of England and walked to bat in a tough situation of 160/6. He struggled hard to survive and ran only 14 runs short of a test century. He has three triple centuries in his first-class career. He struggled hard and gave apt answers to James Anderson and Moeen Ali. His teammates Bumrah and Mohammed Shami fell to reckless shots but Jadeja worked hard to prevent a collapse. Though Hardik Pandya was picked as an all-rounder, he did not make a convincing performance in the fifth test.
His unbeaten 86 runs may not help India to win or to provide a strong position to him in the test team. But his score marked a good comeback into the team as an all-rounder.
