Ahead of series against Pakistan, Australian cricketers Peter Siddle and Aaron Finch were selected for the UAE test squad. The Queensland trio Michael Naser, Brendon Doggett, and Marnus Labuschagne got their first ever national call-up for the test team.
Travis Head also got the call-up for the national test team for the series against Pakistan as well. Aaron Finch reportedly got the national call-up for tests and Peter Siddle, Victorian pacer Peter Siddle got his maiden national call-up after picking his 500th first-class wicket. He picked 32 wickets for Essex from seven games. Out of these, 16 were taken from a single match. With the absence of David Warner and Steven Smith due to ball-tampering scandal and injury woes of Hazelwood and Pat Cummins, Australians were in the quest for best test team from the available choices.
The selection committee including the new head coach Justin Langer, selectors Greg Chappel and Trevor Horns, met to select potential players for the ongoing test series against India A and later the series against Pakistan. In addition, Ashton Agar, who played the fourth test match against Bangladesh in 2017 for the last time, got the national call-up along with the above players. Peter Hanscomb, Jhye Richardson, Glenn Maxwell, Joe Burns, and Chad Sayers were dropped from the team.
Finch slammed 4957 runs for Australia in limited overs format and got the opportunity to play for Australian test team. He has a decent first-class form and slammed 900 runs from 17 games. Surprisingly, he didn’t get a call from the test team all these years despite scoring 4957 runs from the limited overs format. Recently he slammed 77 runs from the two first-class matches, the best score is 43 runs.
