India holds the record of clinching Asia cup the highest number of times. India entered finals in 1988, 1991, 1995, 1997, 2004, 2008, 2010, and 2016 and for the current season, they need to encounter Bangladesh in the final combat.

1988 Wills Asia cup
In 1988, India clinched the first Asia cup by beating Sri Lanka at Dhaka. Sri Lanka was restricted to 176 runs and Kris Srikkanth picked 3 wickets. Sidhu slammed 76 runs off 87 balls along with four fours and 3 sixes to stand as the player of the series by scoring 179 runs from the series. Vengsarkar scored an unbeaten fifty from 81 balls to chase the target within 37 overs.
1991 Asia cup
In 1991, India managed to beat Sri Lanka for the second time in the Asia cup. Mohammed Azharuddin was the captain for the team and slammed 54 runs. Kapil Dev picked four wickets and Sachin Tendulkar and Manjrekar slammed 75 runs and 53 runs respectively.
1995 Asia Cup
In the 1995 Asia Cup, India chased 231 runs and Azharuddin and Sidhu managed to slam unbeaten 84 runs and 90 runs respectively to beat Sri Lanka for the third time and take the Asia Cup home.
1997 Asia Cup
In 1997, Tendulkar’s men defeated Bangladesh by 9 wickets but lost to Sri Lanka by 9 wickets. Jayasuriya, Maravan Atapattu, and Ranatunga slammed the fifties in that fame.
2004 Asia Cup
In 2004 Asia cup, under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, India smashed UAE, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka to enter the finale. In the chase of 229 runs, India was in a tough situation with 26/2 and lost Sachin at 74. Then the score was 140/7 for 40 overs. Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan gave a tough fight but could not win the game.
2008 Asia cup
Four years later, India entered Asia cup finale but could not stand the attack of Ajanta Mendis and lost to Sri Lanka for the third time. Jayasuriya slammed 125 runs from 114 balls and Mendis picked 6/13 to defeat India by 100 runs.
2010 Asia cup
India avenged their defeat against Sri Lanka at Dambulla with a difference of 81 runs. MS Dhoni led the team. Dinesh Kartik slammed 66 runs and Nehra picked 4/40. India scored 268/6 in that game.
2016 Asia cup
In 2016, Indians defeated Pakistan by five wickets, Bangladesh by 45 runs, Sri Lanka by five wickets, and Hong Kong by nine wickets to enter the final. The hosts Bangladesh were the other finalists. Dhawan slammed 60 runs and Kohli scored 41 runs to guide India to score 120 runs in 14.5 overs when the match was truncated to 20 overs. Then, the team was led by MS Dhoni.
