Vengsarkar slammed 102 runs to hand India a decent score of 327 and the target for West Indies was 27 runs which they reached with 5 wickets in hand. Vivian Richards scored 109 runs. On the other hand, after two draws, India badly needed to win the match at Chennai. Kapil Dev scored 109 runs to hand India a decent score of 382 runs. Hirwani, the debutant made a great record of picking 16/136 in his first test at the age of 19 to bowl out India at the score of 184 in the first innings and later at the score of 160 runs. India succeeded to beat the target of 255 runs to win the match.

Raju picked 5 wickets and Kumble picked 3 wickets to hand India a victory marking the decline of West Indies team. Carl Hooper scored 67 runs in the game.

At Mohali, Jimmy Adams scored 174 runs and handed West Indies a score of 443 runs. India were bowled out for 387 and later West Indies scored 301 runs to declare the game. But failing to reach the target of 357 runs, Indian innings collapsed at 114 runs and lost the game.

2002-03 India won series by 2-0

Dravid and Sehwag shouldered the victory of India in the first test by slamming hundreds in Mumbai and Harbhajan Singh supported their effort by picking seven wickets. In the test at Kolkata, Kumble and Harbhajan picked 8 wickets and Sachin scored  176 and VVS Lakshman scored 154 runs to hand India a memorable series win against the visitors.

2011-12 India won the series by 2-0

MS Dhoni’s men won the game at Delhi by 5 wickets and Ashwin was named the man of the match. Earlier India were bowled out at 209 answering the 304 runs of visitors but Ashwin turned the result of the game. At Kolkata, Dravid scored 110 runs and Lakshman scored 176 runs adding 144 of Dhoni. India declared the innings at 631/7 and Ojha picked four wickets to win the game. At Wankhede, Ashwin and Ojha picked 10 wickets among themselves and drawn the game.

2013-14 series  won by India 2-0

In the game at Wankhede, Sachin Tendulkar announced retirement and slammed 74 runs. At Kolkata, Rohit Sharma made his test debut and slammed a hundred and Shami picked 9 wickets. Rohit made an unbeaten hundred again and Ojha picked five wickets in his last test match.
