MS Dhoni lost his form ad his performance was poor in the Asia cup. There was a recent controversy about the comments of selector MSK Prasad that Dhoni will play for Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare tournament in the quarter-final against Maharashtra. MSDhoni denied the news about this later.
These statements showed the lack of communication between selectors and the team members. Murali Vijay and Karun Nair also complained about the selectors about the lack of information about their exclusion from the test team. However, Jharkhand coach Ravi Kumar stated that Dhoni will not play this game since his inclusion might disturb the balance of the team. There are questions about selectors if they asked Dhoni to play in domestic tournaments before the Australia series. But there are no proper conclusions about this news and questions.
Dhoni is suffering injury woes and many fitness issues since 2017. He struggled a lot to bat in December 2017 and later bounced back by the series against South Africa. He made remarkable performances on some occasions of that series and in IPL. But he lost his grip over the bat and his statistics with the bat are alarming in the recent past. Many fans and critiques are upset about his poor form and performances and many are doubtful about his inclusion in the World cup squad. Undoubtedly, he is one of the greats who cannot be replaced but the bitter truth is against him. Including Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul for the West Indies series shows that the team is trying to find a backup in the absence of him.
He will not likely retire till the end of the World cup season but his figures are very poor in the Asia cup. He is included in the team for West Indies ODI series but if he won’t improve his performance, one cannot deny the chances of ruling him out of the world cup squad since the selectors need to lock the world cup squad before the end of February 2018. If he is included in the team despite poor performance, the selectors might be criticized for carrying the extra baggage.
