India clinched the ODI home series against West Indies by defeating the visitors in the fifth ODI at Thiruvananthapuram. They chased the score of 105 runs by 14th over by all-round performances of batsmen and bowlers. Ravindra Jadeja was named the man of the match for this game. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stood till the end to hand India the series victory though Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed earlier.
Rohit Sharma scored unbeaten 63 runs and Virat Kohli added 33 runs to speed up the victory of the team. Ravindra Jadeja, who was called as the test specialist earlier made a comeback into the ODI team by picking 4/34 in this match. India registered the victory in the series by 3-1 and this is the sixth bilateral home series clinched by India under the leadership of Virat Kohli. The pacers made it easier by picking subsequent wickets to support Ravindra Jadeja and bowled out the West Indians at the score of 105 runs in the first innings. The visitors made their lowest ODI total against India in this game.
Ravindra Jadeja took 4 wickets from 9.5 overs and a maiden over. He might stand as one of the options when the team needs an all-rounder for the Australia tour. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah had one wicket each under their belts and the hosts became confident again with their sixth bilateral series victory in a sequence at home.
This series meant a roller coaster drive for MS Dhoni and he was rested for T20I series against West Indies. There was a lot of criticism about excluding him in the crucial series ignoring his performance and experience but most of the experts believe that he was just rested but was not dropped. However, since he did not get a chance to bat in this game, he lost the opportunity to finish 10,000 runs in ODIs and he was just one run away short from that record.
