India is trying hard to secure the top position in the ICC test ratings by clinching the test series against Australia. The first test will be played at Adelaide and the next games will be staged at Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney. Here are the team predictions from India for the first test match at Adelaide Oval on 6th December.
- Prithvi Shaw
KL Rahul is one of the outstanding openers for India but he is facing a tough phase due to poor form since a few innings. Since he failed to make a decent score in the practice match, Prithvi Shaw will be the choice of selectors for the Adelaide test. Prithvi Shaw bagged the man of the series award from his debut test series. Since he is new to the Australian conditions, there are a few expectations about his aggressive performance but he did his best in the practice game by scoring 66 off 69 balls.
- Chetteshwar Pujara
He scored some decent numbers at an average of 55.01 from 12 tests. He slammed 1,101 runs from two centuries and six half-centuries. He has a good record in handling Australian bowling record.
- Murali Vijay
He is one of the outstanding openers for India and is well habituated for the Australian conditions. Though he was dropped out of the team for the home series against West Indies, his big numbers as an opener brought him an opportunity to continue in the test team. This Tamil Nadu based batsman scored 1,275 runs from 13 tests at an average of 53.13 along with four centuries and six half-centuries.
- Virat Kohli
In 2014-15, he scored 692 runs along with four centuries in the Border-Gavaskar tournament. He is shouldering the dream of clinching the first test series on Australian soil. Since the Indian team seems stronger than the past, he wants to finish the series with the numbers of 3-1 or 2-1.
- Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane slammed 2,131 runs from 52 innings and has a decent record in overseas series. He is one of the strongest middle order batsmen for India in the test format. He slammed 6 centuries and 11 half-centuries at an average of 46.33 from his overseas outings in the test format.
- Rishabh Pant
He made his test debut with the series against West Indies and slammed two half-centuries from two test matches. His performance in the Adelaide test as a wicket-keeper and the batsman is the most anticipated one.
- Ravichandran Ashwin
He is one of the best off-spinners in the world class cricket. Against Australia, he picked 71 scalps from 14 test matches. In the current series, he might stand as the highest wicket-taker if he keeps up the good form he had in the England and West Indies test series.
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar
He is one of the finest pacers for India and with his perfect swing, he might trouble the Aussies line up to the extreme levels.
- Mohammed Shami
He had good numbers against England and West Indies in the recent past. He is doing consistently for the team. Since the hosts lack strong batsmen like David Warner and Steven Smith, the task of picking more scalps will be easier for this 28-year-old bowler.
- Kuldeep Yadav
He picked 19 wickets from 5 tests. He began his test career with Border-Gavaskar test series in 2017 but he did not get more scope to perform in test format till date. He is one of the best spinners for India and expects to cement his position in the test team also.
- Jasprit Bumrah
He picked 28 wickets from 6 test matches and wants to give a boost for his test cricket career by performing well in the Border-Gavaskar series. His performance in the current series is a crucial one for the Indian side since he is one of the consistent pacers for India in all the formats.
