The role of an opener in laying a strong platform for the innings is very crucial. In world-class cricket, there are legendary cricketers who stood as formidable openers. Here are some of the greatest openers in the 50-over format.


Virender Sehwag

Sehwag loves to hit the ball whether it is the first ball or last ball of the innings. He formed one of the strongest opening pairs along with legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. He is known for his aggressive style in hitting boundaries. One of his best performances is 219 against West Indies in the World cup 2011. The way he thrashed Umar Gul with boundaries is still a talking point. He slammed 15 hundreds and 38 fifties at a strike rate of 104.33 from 251 ODIs. He played 423 ODIs and slammed 18426 runs at an average of 44.83 and strike rate of 86.24. Undoubtedly, he is a legendary opener India ever seen.
