Delhi Daredevils franchise will now continue in the IPL as Delhi Capitals. The owners of the franchise, JSW group made this announcement yesterday. The franchise made this move with a hope to change the misfortune haunting the team since the commencement of IPL in 2008. The representative of the JSW group, co-owners of the franchise mad this declaration along with the original owners, GMR group.
The team will consist of old core players including Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, and retained head coach Ricky Ponting and the captain Shreyas Iyer. The unavailability of the majority of core players from abroad is another issue for the franchise with a new look. England and Australian cricket boards declared that their players will not play in the IPL after May 1. The parliamentary elections in India might clash with IPL season 2019 and hence the alternative venue for IPL is not decided yet. The BCCI might rest crucial players for IPL since the world cup season will start after a couple of weeks after the conclusion of IPL.
In this context, one of the directors of JSW group, Parth Jindal said that since the core of the team remained same since a few years, the inclusion of Shikhar Dhawan adds strength to the team.
He said that the cricket boards of England and Australia said that their players will not be available after May 1st and hence they are looking for players who are available for the entire season. He felt that the interests of the Indian team come first and IPL is just a league and is meant for just fun and entertainment. So, the franchise will keep the benefits of national players as the first priority. He also remarked about the request of Indian captain Virat Kohli to rest Indian pacers from IPL and said that the franchise did not have any Indian pacer this time.
