Cheteshwar Pujara is popular as a test batsman and is in best of his form with a splendid century in the Adelaide test at Australia. He represented Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Kings XI Punjab from 2008 to 2014. His defensive batting style took him away from this cash-rich league thereafter.
Though he is one of the best players in the test format, he could get the opportunity to play only a number of ODIs and T20Is. Like his role model Rahul Dravid, he just strives to save his wicket and scores runs to guide the team towards a strong position. One of his drawbacks is he could not adapt to the T20I format even after a vast international cricket experience. He could not encash the opportunities he got in the limited overs format to strengthen his position in T20 team or ODI team.
However, his experience will be an asset to the teams who lacked solid and dependable batsmen. His skills and international experience will be useful for a team like RCB which lacks consistent batting line up though it has two versatile batsmen in the team, Virat Kohli, and Ab De Villiers.
Though the team seems a strong one with batsmen like Kohli, De Villiers, Brendon Mc Cullum, and Faf Du Plessis, the arrogant style of these batsmen might cause quicker fall of wickets and might lead the team into trouble. Hence, they need a dependable and experienced batsman like Pujara. Some experts might say that Pujara has less impressive records outside Asia and he often fails to bat well on flat pitches. There is a confusion about the venue of the IPL due to general elections in 2019 and the tournament might take place in South Africa or UAE.
Experts say that pitches like Chinnaswamy stadium might favor the bowlers and in this situation, Pujara will be a correct inclusion since his inputs will be useful for the team regardless of his absence or presence in the final squad. Since his base price is lesser than some overseas players, he will be an affordable option for the franchise.
