Delhi Daredevils franchise was rechristened as Delhi Capitals. Since many decades, the franchise did not make any changes to the core team but did not make to the finale since the inaugural session. This year, the team released many crucial players like Mohammed Shami, Gautam Gambhir, Liam Plunkett, Glenn Maxwell, Jason Roy, Junior Dala, Sayan Ghosh, Naman Ojha, and Gurukeerat Singh Mann who were their core players in many seasons to give the team a new outlook. However, they retained young players like Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw and traded Shikhar Dhawan from Sunrisers Hyderabad before the auctions. Here are five players who might gain big from Delhi Capitals this year.
Retained Players from Delhi Capitals
Trent Boult, Shreyas Iyer, Kagiso Rabada, Amit Mishra, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Avesh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Harshal Patel, Manjot Kalra, Chris Morris, Colin Munro, Jayant Yadav, and Sandeep Lamicchane.
- Axar Patel
He was one of the crucial players for Kings XI Punjab but could not do up to the expectations in the previous season. Hence, he was released by the franchise for this season. He will be an additional asset for the team with Kagiso Rabada and Amit Mishra. The team seems stronger with experienced bowlers like Amit Mishra who had a decent record in the T20 format. Axar Patel has a good T20 record from 101 matches he played. His economy rate is very low and he picked 92 scalps from his T20 career.
- Barinder Sran
He is one of the regular players for IPL and was bagged by the Punjab franchise for a huge sum of Rs.2.2 crore. But he did not do justice for the remuneration and was released by the franchise. In 2016, he picked 14 wickets at an economy rate of 8.34. He started his international career in 2016 by entering the squad for Australian tour but did not do well in that series. Since he did not maintain his figures for KXIP as he did for Rajasthan Royals, he was released by the franchise.
Since Delhi Capitals released Mohammed Shami, the team needs a domestic pacer like Barinder Sran who will be an additional asset for the pace bowling department spearheaded by Kagiso Rabada and Trent Boult.
- D’ Arcy Short
D’Arcy Short was one of the crucial openers for the Australian team and slammed 1400 runs from 45 T20 matches. He had a poor outing for Rajasthan Royals and hence was released by the franchise this year. He was an arrogant opener who stirred the Australian batting line up on many occasions and was an efficient bowler on crucial occasions. However, Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan will be the primary choice for openers in the team but if the team needs a backup opener, D’Arcy Short will be the best option.
- Heinrich Klassen
He is one of the cool-headed batsmen and efficient openers for the team. He entered into Rajasthan Royals team in the absence of Steven Smith. Steven Smith missed out the previous season of IPL due to the ball-tampering scandal. Klassen could not make justice for the opportunity he availed and hence he was released by the franchise this year. His ability to hit quick runs will make him the efficient middle-order batsman for Delhi Capitals.
- 5. Shimron Hetmeyr
He might be one of the biggest buys this IPL. He will be very useful for the Delhi franchise which lacks an explosive middle order batsman. He caught the attention of the Indians when he slammed 106 and 94 against India this year in two consecutive ODIs. His attacking style and athletic performance are the biggest assets for him and he will be a big buy this IPL for sure.
