Australia made a solid start on a hot day at the Perth test by the opening stand of 66 runs without a wicket before lunch. Though the pacers like Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami succeeded to have economic spells, they failed to pick a wicket before lunch. Since the Optus stadium is a bouncy pitch and there was a green tinge on the ground, the Aussies captain who won the toss chose to bat first.
Virat Kohli reacted positively after losing the toss by saying that the pacers can trouble the shaky top order of the Australians to the heights. Though Mohammed Shami got the opportunity to dismiss Aaron Finch by lbw, he could not get a positive response by the umpire. After lunch, Jasprit Bumrah had a good start by figures 5-3-3-1, and Jasprit Bumrah and Hanuma Vihari supported him by picking one wicket each. Australia is currently at 145/3.
India bossed the second session after Australians made an opening stand of 112 runs. Marcus Harris slammed 60 runs and KL Rahul failed to pick him at the slips. Later, Harris fell in the spell of Mohammed Shami as he was caught by Hanuma Vihari at the third slips.
Mohammed Shami bowled a few overs after lunch and Harris slammed him with two consecutive fours. On the other hand, Aaron Finch slammed 50 runs. Then struck Jasprit Bumrah and picked the scalp of Aaron Finch within a couple of overs. Indian bowlers were thrashed by the Australian bowlers by 45 runs from first 12 overs but Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah repaired the Indian innings.
Usman Khwaja troubled Rishabh Pant for 25 minutes. He encountered 38 balls and slammed just 5 runs. Marcus Harris scored 70 runs and fell to Hanuma Vihari by a simple catch. In the first session, Australians troubled Indians with consecutive singles. Mohammed Shami had a great spell in the first session with 4-2-3-0.
