After the IPL auctions, some teams seemed to be shrewd in choosing players and some teams seemed extravagant. Here is the list of teams who seem weaker on paper after the completion of auctions.
- Royal Challengers Bangalore
Shimron Hetmeyr, Shivam Dubey, and Heinrich Klassen are some of the wise choices made by the franchise. Kohli’s men are often called underdogs since they cant lift the title since the commencement of the IPL but now, the team seems really weak. They let go players like Quinton De Kock and Manan Vohra this time and there are no experienced players except Virat Kohli, who might be unavailable after half the series will be completed. Though the spin-bowling department seems consistent, pace bowling is the Achille’s heel for the franchise.
- Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals are experiencing the same issues even after buying big guns like Shikhar Dhawan and Akshar Patel. Their choice of overseas players seemed poor. They invested a lot on faded players like Colin Ingram, who played international cricket five years ago. Shikhar Dhawan might be rested after the first half of the series keeping world cup season in mind. In addition, Keemo Paul and Shefane Rutherford had lesser experience in dealing stronger overseas teams. Hence, the team seems as the weaker one on paper since they need to resolve middle-order woes as well.
- Rajasthan Royals
Though the franchise retained Steven Smith after ball-tampering issue, he cannot play for the team after the first half of the tournament. They invested much on Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes who might not play the crucial games of the series due to world cup season. In addition, there is a confusion about the captain of the team since Steven Smith will be rested by his national team for preparations to the World cup. Hence, Ajinkya Rahane might don the captaincy for this season also.
