India won the World Cup in 2011 and most of the players who were the part of the triumphant squad are out of cricket due to various reasons. Though a few veteran players are making appearances on a few occasions, most of them might not participate in the upcoming world cup. Here is an account of a few such players.
He is the hero of the World cup 2011. He is one of the versatile all-rounders for India. He was awarded the man of the series award for his performance in the series but after he was diagnosed with cancer, he had undergone a series of chemotherapy and fought back to attain a position in the team. In 2017, he registered a comeback with 150 runs off 127 balls against England but he could play only a few ODIs and T20Is later. Though he expressed a desire to be a part of the team in the World cup 2019, he might not get a national call up even after good performances in the domestic series.
Though he is taking an active part in IPL, he played his last international series in 2015. He made way for Ravichandran Ashwin in 2015 World cup. He made his debut under Azharuddin and was a sensational spinner in his teenage in 1998. He played a few games in 2015 and 2016 but could not withstand the competition given by young spinners. At 38, he wants to end his international career after being a part of the World Cup squad. He played his last game against West Indies in 2015.
Though he achieved many benchmarks as the versatile spinner in the test format, he could not represent the country in ODIs due to tight competition by Yuzwendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and many young spinners. He is one of the capable all-rounders for the team in the test format similar to the likes of Ravindra Jadeja. He played his last ODI against West Indies in 2017. He was considered as one of the unlucky cricketers though he was a regular player in the test team.
He is one of the arrogant batsman and still is a part of Chennai Super Kings in IPL. Due to injury woes and poor form, he lost the chance to play as a regular player in the ODI squad. He played a few T20Is in 2018 but could not cement his position in the ODI team. Since the team selectors are opting for youngsters like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Dinesh Kartik, he might not get back into the world cup squad. He played his last ODI against England in 2018.
Though he was a part of World cup squad 2011, he could not make memorable performances. He was a part of the ODI squad from 2008-2012 but remained as an extra player after the players like Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin entered the scene. He was a fiery all-rounder and a handy spinner but could not in a place in the regular squad. He could not participate in the World cup 2019 withstanding the competition with all-rounders like Pandya brothers and young spinners like Vijay Shankar. He last represented the ODI team against Pakistan in March 2012.
