Why Virat Kohli Should Give Up Royal Challengers Bangalore Captaincy

Royal Challengers Bangalore is considered as the underperformers since the inaugural season of IPL. Sunnrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Rajasthan Royals are giving a good fight to survive and dominate in the tournament and Delhi Capitals seem to adopt new look after a poor outing in the previous season. Royal Challengers Bangalore lost all the six matches they played till now in the current season.

Kolkata Knight Riders changed their captain after poor outings and lifted the title twice under Gautam Gambhir. On the other hand, under the leadership of Dinesh Karthik, they finished their season in the third position in the previous season. They are playing a dominant role after Chennai Super Kings in the current season.

  1. Failure as Captain?

Virat Kohli was handed captaincy after some memorable performances for India. He handed the U19 team the most anticipated world cup. He took the charge as captain in 2014 and under his leadership, Royal Challengers Bangalore qualified to the playoffs just in two seasons. Some experts say that he does exceptionally well as a batsman but often fails to do great as the captain. In 2016, he did mesmerizing performances for the team by slamming 973 runs from 16 fixtures and Shane Watson and Yuzwendra Chahal did well as bowlers in the same season.

  1. Failed to motivate?

MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma are trying hard to motivate his teammates in tough situations. But many feel that Virat Kohli failed to do this for his men. In the matches played by India, in the absence of MS Dhoni, he failed to inspire his teammates in many occasions and guide the team towards the most crucial wins. In the T20I format, Rohit Sharma has a good victory ratio as a captain even in the absence of Virat Kohli. Except for AB De Villiers, no teammate succeeded to match Kohli’s wavelength and form a good stand when the team needs it badly. Hence, many experts come to the conclusion that Virat Kohli is an outstanding batsman but not an inspiring skipper.

  1. He needs some space before the World cup

The consequent failures of the franchise might impact the form of Kohli to the worst. When the Kolkata franchise is failing to perform consistently, the selectors sacked Sourav Ganguly out of captaincy and the team. But the Bangalore management cannot make that tough move and find an alternate captain since the team needs a fiery batsman like Kohli at any cost. He might be rested for the second half of IPL keeping world cup in mind. Since no one can dismiss Virat Kohli from captaincy, he might step down from the position and make way for the new captain. AB De Villiers seems the only alternative for Virat Kohli to get things back into the track since he retired from ODI format and is competent enough to repair the condition of the team.
