The Chennai Super Kings franchise made its return into the current edition of the IPL and reportedly appointed Eric Simons as bowling consultant. The news appeared on the official Twitter page of the franchise. We all know that Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were suspended from the IPL for two years due to involvement in betting and spot-fixing. The Pune SuperGiants and Gujarat Lions played in the IPL seasons of 2016 and 2017 in the place of CSK and RR franchises.
Eric Simons, former South African pacer worked as the head coach for his home team and mentored team India in 2011 as the bowling coach, team India being the world champion then. He coached the Delhi DareDevils for 2016 edition and mentored the Pune SuperGiants in 2017 IPL season earlier.
The Chennai Super Kings are high with boosted confidence levels with Lakshmipathy Balaji, former Indian pacer as the bowling coach and the team comprising of star bowlers Dwayne Bravo, Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir, Lungi Ngidi and Shane Watson.
The Chennai Super Kings, lovingly called Yellow Lions by the fans, have to encounter the defending champions Mumbai Indians in the inaugural match on April 7th at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. On the other hand, the final match for IPL 2018 is scheduled to be held at Wankhede Stadium as well.
Experts feel that as the bowling coach is already accomplished, there is no requirement for appointing Simons as the bowling consultant for the franchise. But the management countered showing achievements of Eric as the strong reason to add him in the crew as one of the mentors and to fill their side with powerful weapons like Eric Simons who are competent and experienced enough to guide the team in crucial consequences.
