Besides the maiden title victory on the South African soil, Kohli stood at the top in the ICC ODI rankings with 900 points. This run machine is expected to equal the record of 935 points by Vivian Richards soon. Kohli stood as the second batsman to get 900 ranking points after AB De Villiers.

Kohli And Rahane Take India For A Massive Win In First ODIWhen the six ODI series was commenced against South Africa, Kohli was at the mark of 876 points in the limited over ICC rankings. Virat Kohli stood as the first Indian to get 900 ICC ranking points in ODIs. He crossed Sachin’s record of 887 ICC ranking points. This Indian skipper scored 558 runs in the series against South Africa in which India won by 5-1, he succeeded to overtake the record of Brian Lara.

Kohli stood as the seventh man to score the highest number of runs when all-time rankings are considered. Javed Miandad stood at no.6 as he needs only 26 points to equal the record of Vivian Richards.

Coming to the rankings of bowlers, Rashid Khan and Jasprit Bumrah share the top place in the 50-over format. The South African bowler Imran Tahir topped the rankings before the ODI series against India. He slipped down to the fifth place in the current ratings and Trent Boult who stood in the second place earlier fell to the third place.

Bumrah achieved the top place with eight wickets against South Africa and Rashid Khan climbed eight positions to share the top rank with Bumrah by taking 16 wickets against Zimbabwe in five one-dayer series. Earlier, Bumrah has 728 points and Rashid Khan has 649 points. But now, they share the first place with 787 points. The 19- year- old player Rashid Khan stood as the youngest player to top the ICC rankings.

India’s ODI series victory made them top the rankings by scoring 123 points to take the lead over the then top – ranker, South Africa. Shikhar Dhawan entered into the top ten players list and Kuldeep Yadav moved up 47 positions to reach the 15th place and Yuzwendra Chahal moved 21 positions above to get the eighth rank. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma fell down to no.6 in the average rankings.

Afganistan managed to reach the top 10 list by beating Zimbabwe by 4-1 in five one-dayer series. They surpassed Zimbabwe to secure tenth place in the ICC rankings.
