BCCI Read To Give Virat Kohli Rest From Tri-Nation Series If He Wants It


Virat Kohli’s workload became the point of discussion on the account of injuries to South African players. The head of the national Chief selection committee, MSK Prasad will meet his colleagues to pick the team for Nidahas tournament to be commenced on March 6th at Sri Lanka.

Virat-KohliA top BCCI official declared that Kohli has to decide whether to play for this tri-national series or not and if he wants to rest, he will be granted for sure.

Speaking about this, the anonymous BCCI official said, “If Virat wants to rest, he will get it. In Virat’s case, it’s he who decides on whether he would like to opt out or not. But you never know he might just want to play the T20 series as this is the last tourney of the season. Once the tournament is over, he will get a fortnight off before the Indian Premier League.”

India will encounter Sri Lanka in the inaugural match of this tournament at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. This tri-national series will be played by Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and India. This tournament will be held to commemorate the 70th Independence Day celebrations of Sri Lanka.

Kohli stood as the highest scorer in the test series against South Africa with a score of 286 runs at an average of 47.66 with a century and a half-century. This run-machine repeated the same feat in the ODI series with 558 runs at a stunning average of 186. He made three centuries and one half-century in the six ODI series.

Coming to the bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar stood as the star bowlers in addition to the spin-twins Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzwendra Chahal. Bumrah took the top place in the ICC rankings with his performance in the ODI series against South Africa. The pacer duo was expected to have rest for this tri-national series keeping in mind the upcoming IPL edition.

Bumrah bowled most overs in this series, that is, 166 overs and needs rest. Bumrah is the player who played all the matches in this tour along with Kohli and Pandya.

In addition, Bhuvi bowled 100 overs when both tests and ODI series are taken into account. If he bowled for the complete spells, he is expected to add 112 overs in his account.

If Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Bumrah were given rest, Jayadev Unadkat and Shardul Thakur will share the load of the pace-bowling department.
